OH GALLERY is pleased to present QUAND LE GESTE LIBÈRE / WHEN THE GESTURE RELEASES until 28 August 2021.

The complexity and sensitivity of the subject, combined with the large number of shadows that persist around Seyni Awa Camara, his history, his family, his work and the difficulties he has encountered, will have kept this exhibition going. This duo of two artists, Félicité Codjo and Seyni Awa Camara, tackles sensitive, even potentially taboo subjects and frees itself from any required propriety. It goes far beyond the powerful aesthetic character of the two artists or the simplified appreciation linked to their gender.

This exhibition does not assert anything. And anything resembling an assertion is only a supposition in view of the complexity and reliability of the information gathered. If this exhibition questions what has been achieved, it does not question what has been done, said and written before on the Casamance potter. It does, however, attempt to open up new voices and avenues of understanding in order to apprehend the work of a world-famous artist in a different way, during a period of research and for a specific period of time, through the eyes of a colleague who is also renowned.
