Palais de Lomé opened to the public in 2019 with 5 exhibitions that engaged with themes including Pan-Africanism as well as Togo’s pre-colonial and colonial history. 3 Borders was one of these exhibitions exhibitions. The site of Palais de Lomé holds historical significance, with it originally being a former colonial Governor’s house, and is now open to the public as a from of indigenous reclamation of space, labour, and remaking of nation narratives. Palais de Lomé is also the Togo’s first major contemporary art and culture centre and is the the only contemporary art centre in Africa to be fully financed by the state.

Curatorial Statement
This group exhibition invites artists from neighbouring countries to exhibit alongside Togolese artists as an opportunity to engage in conversation about the pluralities and commonalities of different artistic practices in the region.
