Jorge Méndez Blake
Ars poetica (Charles Bukowski) I, 2022
Acrylic on linen
198 x 259 cm

Part of a series of paintings that use as their point of departure poems named “Ars Poetica” – a classic theme in the history of literature in which poets meditate on the art of writing and poetry. From this, Méndez Blake develops a process he calls “dismantling language” that consists of using every letter and character contained in the texts to create a visual composition with those precise elements. Particularly for these new series, Méndez Blake keeps one word legible and plays with the sizes of the letters.
